Learn about how we met!
It all started on May 12, 2007, at one of Hammerheads' iconic '80s nights. I was there with my friend AJ, and Wendy was there celebrating her friend Heather's divorce, along with her sister Chas and Heather herself. From the moment I saw Wendy, I was drawn to her smile, her sparkling eyes, and her beautiful brown hair.
Wendy was casually stylish in denim capris, tennis shoes, and a blue striped T-shirt, perfectly fitting the '80s theme. I decided to make my approach, donning khakis and a white tank top, with a striped button-up and an LED belt buckle that seemed to capture just enough attention, topped off with a cowboy hat.
Our groups mingled, with AJ and I chatting with Chas and Heather, but I quickly found myself gravitating towards Wendy. Wanting to break the ice, I asked her for a female perspective on a humorous situation, hoping to bring a smile to her face.
As the night progressed, the atmosphere on the dance floor pulled us together. It was there that we really connected, dancing and laughing, until I realized I wanted nothing more than to talk to her more intimately. So, I asked if she'd like to find a quieter place. She agreed, and we found ourselves upstairs and outside, sitting on a bench on Main Street, with the distant sound of '80s music.
We talked about everything from her studies in social work to my time learning the locksmith trade from my grandpa and my experiences in the military. As we shared our stories, I lost track of time, completely engrossed in her words and presence.
Just as Wendy said she needed to return to her friends, a wave of panic hit me. As I was trying to figure out how to make my next move, Wendy surprised me. She pulled me back down and kissed me, a perfect end to a perfect beginning. That kiss sealed what I already knew: I was completely smitten.
